The exchange experience
Students have an opportunity to move beyond exercises and use Italian in the natural rhythm of daily life and conversation.
Italian comes alive when students use it to welcome, connect, travel, and understand another culture from within.

The official BHS program describes the exchange as a language and culture immersion opportunity for students enrolled in Italian.
Students can put classroom learning into practice, form relationships with Italian peers, and gain a wider cultural perspective. The experience also reaches Burlingame, where local families welcome visiting Italian students into school and community life.

Hosting brings cultural exchange into Burlingame, creating shared experiences between visiting students, BHS students, and local families.
Relationships with Italian peers help students understand culture as something lived—not simply studied.
The Olive Oil Fundraiser supports the Boosters’ broader work facilitating educational and cultural opportunities around the Italian program.
